Nicholas Fiolo, Ph.D.

“Grappling with Data, Technology, and AI in Applied Sport Science: Perspectives from the Field and the Classroom”

The speech would be a mix of the practical and philosophical about working with teams and educating graduate students in the current ever-evolving environment. The goal of the presentation is to help the audience develop their own framework for approaching and using data, tech, and AI in sport.

I believe in the value of evidence-based practice and the combination of scientific planning and practical action. The value of sport science lies in its ability to positively impact the dayto-day actions of coaches and athletes. Simply using technology to get data is not science. Data are not information. Information without clear action is useless. As a sport scientist I pride myself in developing comprehensive athlete monitoring and training programs to optimize athlete performance on competition day. I hope to educate and mentor a new generation of sport and fitness professionals and prepare them for successful careers.
